Charlie's Lucy Cohu: 'I prepared for playing Terry Keane by reading her COOKBOOK'

Charlie star Lucy Cohu has revealed she prepared for the role of Terry Keane by reading the famous gossip columnist’s cookbook.

The English actress told Goss.ie she didn’t know the story of ex-Taoiseach Charlie Haughey’s famous mistress until being offered the role.

But Lucy said: “I found a cookbook which had strange things like what to cook when you’re recovering from a hangover. I think the book is called Terry Keane’s Consuming Passions.”

However Lucy revealed she didn’t took any of Terry’s recipes as they were “far too complicated”.

She added: “It’s quite an insight into her, things like what to do if you’re throwing a lunch party, there were quite a few hangover cures in there.”

Now Lucy appears alongside Love/Hate’s Aidan Gillen in the RTE drama – and was glad not to know about Terry before.

She said: “It was very interesting because she seems to be infamous to you but of course I knew nothing about her, which was great, absolutely great, because I didn’t come with that huge legacy.

“I found it surprisingly easy, although complicated in one respect because there wasn’t a huge amount I could actually find on her.

“But easy in the respect that Aidan had already been playing Haughey for a couple of weeks when I turned up and he was immersed in the role, so all I had to do was pout my jaws and dance around him a little bit.”

The Broadchurch star also watched Keane’s controversial Late Late Show interview in 1999 in which she reveals publicly her long-standing affair with Haughey.
