Aidan Gillen: 'My kids think my acting career is embarrassing'

Aidan Gillen has revealed that his children don’t think there is anything special about his acting career and sometimes they even find it embarrassing.

The Dubliner is currently starring in RTE drama Charlie, and said his kids see his career as more of an “everyday” thing.

He said: “Because work takes up a lot of my time, you have to choose your movements for really letting rip. I hang out with my friends and family and when I spend time with my kids when I’m not working.”

Embarrassing: Aidan’s kids don’t think there is anything cool about his acting career

“They don’t see my being an actor as exotic. For them, it’s just an everyday thing. Sometimes it’s amusing to them and other times, embarrassing.”

The Dublin actor, who previously starred in US drama The Wire, revealed he loved living in Dingle, Co. Kerry for four years following his time on the series.

No big deal: Aidan thinks his kids are the only people left who haven’t seen Love/Hate

“Dingle was really invigorating. It was four of the best years of my life. It wasn’t me deciding to leave and live in the wilds but, over the years, I have found that wherever you live, the work is always somewhere else” he said.

“During that time, I worked a lot London and I was doing Love/Hate too. When we were living in Kerry, my kids were the only ones who hadn’t seen Love/Hate.”
