WATCH: Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest struggle to understand what ‘Aer Lingus’ means

US TV hosts Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest thought that ‘Lingus’ was an actual place – after getting confused by Irish airline Aer Lingus’ name.

On their show Live with Kelly and Ryan, the TV stars were talking about the changes that will be made to LAX airport in Los Angeles.

The pair mentioned that a number of airlines will have to swap terminals at the airport – one of them being Aer Lingus.

“If you’re going to Canada, Air Canada. If you’re going to Lingus, Aer Lingus. I don’t know where that is… I think it’s in Ireland somewhere,” said Ryan.

“Is that true?” asked Kelly.

“I’ve always been curious about Aer Lingus but two embarrassed to ask. I’m like ‘What is Aer Lingus?’ and I want to go on it,” she added.

FYI, the name Aer Lingus actually comes from the Irish term ‘aerloingeas’ – which translates to ‘air fleet’.

Aer Lingus have since responded to the TV hosts, tweeting at them, “Hey @LiveKellyRyan, pop in to see us any time at LAX! (We’re the ones with the green airplanes.) Love the show.”
