Tributes pour in after former Republic of Ireland manager Jack Charlton dies aged 85

Michael D. Higgins has led tributes to the football legend

Former Republic of Ireland manager Jack Charlton has died aged 85.

The football legend had been diagnosed with lymphoma in the last year, and was also battling dementia.

Jack is remembered as one of the greatest football managers of all time, after he successfully led the Republic of Ireland team from 1986 – 1996.

He was later awarded the Freedom of the City of Dublin, and he was also granted honorary Irish citizenship.

Since the news of his death broke, many have taken to Twitter to pay tribute to him – including the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins.
