Rugby star Tommy Bowe has opened up about married life and how the wedding ring ‘takes a bit of getting used to’.

The Ulster player wed his longterm love Lucy Whitehouse in a stunning ceremony in Wales surrounded by family and friends.

“The wedding ring which still takes a bit of getting used to, course I try wear it all the time but just with the training and stuff that we do obviously I can’t wear it into the gym or wear it onto the pitch.

“So the chances are I’m going to drop it into the kit bag so I think the best thing is to leave it beside the bed and those special occasions then it comes out,” he said.

Speaking to Kathryn Thomas on RTE Radio 1, the Monaghan native said that they all enjoyed the day and that everything went as planned as all his family jetted into the Welsh Valleys.

“It was great yeah, myself and Lucy, Lucy is obviously from Wales, we were over in Wales so there was the Paddy invasion over to Wales that weekend but everyone was in great form I think all the planning and whatever else, I had nothing to do with all went to plan.”

“She was very happy, it was a great day and I think everyone enjoyed themselves and the two of us enjoyed ourselves so that’s what important really,” he told explained.

Tommy invited fellow rugby players to the wedding and admitted that some over indulged on the alcohol just a tad.

“It went to plan and of course there were a few fellas who had a few too many drinks sure that all adds to the craic, the whole occasion but that’s what we wanted, to have a bit of a party and everyone to enjoy themselves,” he added.

The 31-year-old has also revealed that the stress of planning a wedding has been lifted although he previously told Goss.ie that he didn’t have much to do with the planning.

“It’s funny all the planning that goes into it and then it’s all over, takes a bit of stress out of the relationship which is nice,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Tommy is preparing for the upcoming World Cup which takes place in England and kicks off next month and while he was on his honeymoon he was training.

“I tried to do a bit of training when I was away,” he admitted.

“Everyone knows the World Cup only comes around once every four years, it’s a massive spectacle, the pinnacle of a rugby players career so we knew exactly what was at stake so anybody who went away on holidays, we all had four weeks off but I think anyone was still in the gym doing a little bit of training,” he explained.
