Snow Patrol’s Gary Lightbody admits he fears he will get dementia

Snow Patrol frontman Gary Lightbody has revealed that he is sure he will suffer from dementia in his later years.

His father is currently in an advanced stage of the condition.

“My dad has dementia and I’ve always had memory problems. That’s been a lifetime problem,” he told The Sun.

“I’m sure that it will run to me and that’s why I’m trying to get on top of it in my forties, rather than leave it any later.”

The star explained that he has stared doing daily brain exercises to help stave off the illness.

“Hopefully I’ve got a few years yet before that affects me,” he said. “Memory is close to my heart and on my mind. I’ve been trying to do memory exercises.”

“The past few days I’ve been learning all the UN countries in the world and their capitals. I set myself little tasks like that.”

The singer revealed that he hopes the exercises will help him in his performances, as he admits to often forgetting song lyrics while he is on stage.

“I hope at some point that will connect tissue when I’m on stage. Something disconnects me from the lyrics when I’m there.”

Gary is set to release a new album with Snow Patrol, called Reworked, on November 1st.
