Shane Filan’s wife has been declared bankrupt, six years after the singer filed for bankruptcy himself due to debts of €23 million.

According to the Irish Mirror, Gillian Filan was ruled bankrupt by the High Court on July 23.

A representative for the former Westlife star said the couple would not be making further comment, but confirmed that Gillian’s bankruptcy is relating to joint loans she shared with Shane.

Shane landed himself in hot water during the recession, after his company Shafin Developments took out massive loans from Bank of Ireland and Ulster Bank.

The company, which he co-owned with his brother Finbarr, borrowed millions in order to build a housing estate in Dromahair, Co Leitrim – but Shafin Developments went bust in 2012, and Shane later filed for bankruptcy in Kingston County Court in the UK.

Shane and his family were subsequently forced to sell their mansion in Sligo, which was valued at €10 million during the boom, for a mere €800,000 in 2014.

The 39-year-old married Gillian in 2003, and the couple share three children together –  Nicole, 13, Patrick, nine, and Shane, eight.
