Rory McIlroy hired anti-drone tech to make sure wedding was completely private

Rory McIlroy hired anti-drone technology for his wedding over the weekend, it has been revealed.

The 27-year-old celebrated his marriage to Erica Stoll at Ashford Castle in Co. Mayo, and went to extreme measures to ensure that their wedding was kept from the prying eyes of the public.

According to the Irish Independent, the couple’s advisors orchestrated an elaborate security operation, which including the use of anti-drone technology, which was developed in the battle against terrorists in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Drone Defence executives Liam Brady and Richard Gill said the technology was designed to prevent camera-equipped drones, and it will shortly be used widely across Ireland and other European cities.

“This is the first time this kind of technology has been used here,” Mr Brady said.

“The drones are then either taken under our control by special technology or they are disabled by the use of a deployed net,” Mr Gill added.

The couple exchanged vows at St Mary’s Church on Saturday, and later celebrated their nuptials amongst over 200 guests – including stars such as Niall Horan, golfers Paul McGinley, Darren Clarke, Shane Lowry and Padraig Harrington, billionaire JP McManus and hotelier John Fitzpatrick.

The wedding is understood to have cost around €500,000 – and Stevie Wonder was flown in to provide entertainment on the night, alongside a 15-piece orchestra.
