Robbie Keane confirms move to India

Robbie Keane and his family are set to up sticks once again, after signing for Indian Super League champions Atletico de Kolkata.

Yesterday, the former Republic of Ireland captain confirmed that he will join the teams for the 2017/2018 season.

The 37-year-old, who has been without a club for nine months since leaving LA Galaxy, will work alongside former Tottenham teammate Teddy Sheringham, who was appointed the new ATK manager in July.

According to the Irish Daily Mail, Robbie said in a statement, “I feel extremely fortunate to have played for some of the best clubs in England and the USA, as well as representing my country at several major tournaments.

“At this stage of my career, the offer to experience a new league and culture in Asia appealed. To join the current Indian Super League champions is a great pleasure and through hard work I hope to bring the ATK fans more success.”

Robbie’s wife Claudine and their two sons – Robert Jr, 8, and 22-month-old Hudson – have enjoyed spending their summer at home in Malahide after jetting back from life in the US, but now it looks like they’re making the move once again.

“You can’t really plan ahead when you’ve a career like Rob’s,” Claudine recently told the Irish Daily Mail. “You can be moved along at any stage.”
