Racing to the shops: Brian O'Driscoll's biography was only finished a DAY ago

Rugby legend Brian O’Driscoll’s biography was only finished yesterday – and faces a major race to get into stores next month.

Ghost writer Alan English has been working flat out on the biography with the former Leinster player to tell his life story – and already feels it will be one of the books of the year.

But Alan – who took over the book in January after Paul Kimmage pulled out – said it has been a last-minute race to get BOD’s book The Test completed.

Story: Brian’s biography was only finished yesterday

He said: “I came in at the end of January and basically worked flat out at it until yesterday I sent over the final [to publishers].

“With these things there are always last minute changes. I think at some time yesterday Brian sent a tweet of the cover of the book and said you know more or less phew it’s done.

“There’s a story to be told and it’s an amazing story that Brian has had. I hope I’ve done it justice.

“I inherited very detailed interviews that Paul who I worked with for many years in the Sunday Times.

“I had the benefit of those interviews that Paul did with Brian and then of course I did my own interviews as well and immersed myself in the project.”

Alan also revealed that the biography also discusses Brian’s eye vision – or lack of it.

“He does reveal in the book that he couldn’t see the faces of the players he was up against,” he told the Ray D’Arcy Show.

“He could only tell the opposition players through their body shapes so he knew if a big fat guy was coming towards him it was a forward.

“He has phenomenal drive; phenomenal talent and I think it is a compelling story. I am very happy with it.”
