Rachel Allen’s son arrested for ‘driving while intoxicated’ after crashing Range Rover

The son of celebrity chef Rachel Allen,  Joshua Allen, has been arrested for “driving while intoxicated” after crashing a Range Rover worth €70,000.

According to the Irish Daily Mail, the 20-year-old was detained for a period of time in the early hours of Monday morning near his home in the Shanagarry area of east Cork following the incident.

A Garda spokesman confirmed to the publication that a 20-year-old man was arrested before being released without charge after the 4×4 vehicle crashed into a wall.

“Gardaí attended [a scene] following reports of a single-vehicle collision at Shangarry South, Ballycotton, at approximately 3.25am [Monday morning],” a spokesman said.

“There were no reports of any injuries. Arising from the incident, a man (20s) was arrested for ‘driving while intoxicated’.

“He was taken to Midleton Garda Station and later released without charge. Investigations are ongoing,” the spokesman added.

The damage to the car has been described as “moderate”.

Last month, Joshua was arrested after “failing a roadside drug test”.

“Gardaí stopped a vehicle in Ballinacurra, Co. Cork on Wednesday, August 12, 2020, at approximately 10pm,” a Garda rep told the Irish Mail on Sunday at the time.

“A roadside test was administered to the driver, a male in his 20s, which he failed. The male was arrested as a result, investigations ongoing.”

The paper added that Joshua was later released after further tests were conducted.

Back in 2018, Joshua was convicted of possession of drugs with the intent to supply at the highly-acclaimed Ballymaloe Cookery School – ran by his mum Rachel.

Joshua had been given a 15-month sentence back in February, having plead guilty to three drug offences, including possession cannabis with a street value of over €22,000 for sale or supply at the famous cookery school.

He pled guilty to a possession charge for a small amount of cocaine.

At the time, Joshua’s legal team said he had been to rehab and that he underwent treatment for addiction problems.

Joshua was given temporary release back in June, having served four-and-a-half months of his 15-month sentence.

In a statement last year, his mum Rachel and her husband Isaac said they were “devastated”.

“We are absolutely devastated at this turn of events,” they said at the time.

“Our son is eighteen years old, has never been in trouble with the Gardaí, and has made a huge mistake, which will have profound consequences for him.

“We do not in any way condone his actions, in fact, we utterly condemn them, but it is not for us to condemn him.”
