Presenter Maia Dunphy shares her thoughts on climate change and Greta Thunberg

Top Irish TV presenter Maia Dunphy has revealed that she is a huge supporter of Swedish environmentalist Greta Thunberg.

However, she feels that the future of the planet should not be led by the teenager, but rather by government leaders.

Maia told The Irish Mirror that she has become environmentally engaged since filming her new series What Planet Are You On?, and thinks that Greta has done more for climate change than many politicians.

“Greta has set in motion a movement that’s not to be sniffed at and has done more than a lot of elected representatives around the globe.”

“The majority of people who have bullied her are white middle-aged men, which is sad.”

“She’s extraordinary, I wouldn’t have had that emotional wherewithal when I was 16.”

Maia spoke out ahead of her upcoming RTE series What Planet Are You On?, which will look at environmental issues surrounding water, waste, energy and food.

“In my upcoming series we feature a young girl who is very anxious because of climate change.”

“I wouldn’t want to think of any child losing sleep over the state of the planet. It’s good to fight for what they believe in but one should not lose sleep.”

“There has to be some Government initiative for change and retailers need to be involved. “We can’t leave it down to one 16-year-old to save the future.”

On this week’s Gosscast Goss.ie Founder Ali Ryan talks to Lisa Cannon about her best and worst celeb interviews and the reality of working in showbiz.
