Nicola Coughlan has revealed she nearly landed a role in popular Netflix show Stranger Things.
The Irish actress, who plays Penelope Featherington in Bridgerton on the streaming giant, auditioned for the role of Robin in the sci-fi drama.
The Galway native told Buzzfeed: “I auditioned for Stranger Things a number of years ago. I auditioned to play Robin, Maya Hawke got it, she was far better than I ever would have been.”
The 35-year-old continued: “It’s a good lesson to actors: Watch the stuff you didn’t get, because you’ll totally understand how it’s not personal.”
“You’re just right for some things, and you’re not right for other things,” she added.
Nicola went on to land a role in the hit period drama Bridgerton, which is one of Netflix’s most-watched shows.
Taking to Instagram last month after the show’s second season dropped, Nicola wrote: “Deeply grateful to you all for watching #Bridgerton and for helping us break global records: 193 million hours of viewing time worldwide — the highest for any English-language Netflix series in its first three days.”
“We’ve also made the top 10 in 92 of the 93 countries which has blown my mind, thank you so much.”
