Muireann O’Connell denies she called Spencer Matthews ‘short’ – after he publicly called her out

Muireann O’Connell has denied claims she called Spencer Matthews “short” on The Six O’Clock Show, after he publicly called her out.

The reality star, who is married to Vogue Williams, appeared on the afternoon show last week for an interview with Muireann and her co-host Martin King.

After the episode aired, Spencer claimed Muireann called him “short” at the end of their chat.

Speaking on the latest episode of the Spencer & Vogue podcast, he said: “I did the Six O’Clock live show last night in Ireland and I gave, what I thought, was a very nice interview…”

“Then at the end the presenter went, ‘Ah he’s just so nice, he’s so nice!’ And the other presenter went, ‘Yeah he is, he’s so nice,’ and she just went ‘Shame he’s so short.’ Shame he’s so short?!”

Vogue then said: “Muireann, I can’t believe you said that about my husband! He’s not that short.”

Spencer added: “I’m actually not that short and I’ll have you know if you google how tall I am it’s wrong.”

After being alerted to Spencer’s comments, Muireann has taken to Instagram to set the record straight.

Speaking on her Instagram Story, she explained: “Spencer said I called him short on The Six O’Clock Show…”

“Oh my god, before this turns into Jen and Brad, Leo and Tony Holohan, Twink and Linda Martin… we need to get this straight.”

“Spencer said his son Theodore would say certain words in a Dublin accent, like ‘shirt’ would become ‘short’, actually it was Martin who gave that example… That’s all that was said,” she clarified.

“Although Spencer could be very short, I’ve only ever seen him be half a foot high on the television.”

In another post, Muireann added: “I very much enjoyed the Covid distraction of #shortgate and those of you who got involved, sending me stuff… ye’re bloody gaaaas.”

“Thanks @voguewilliams & @spencermatthews I needed it.”
