Mrs Brown’s Boys star Rory Cowan reveals the REAL reason why he QUIT

Mrs Brown’s Boys star Rory Cowan has insisted that there was “no falling out” between him and Brendan O’Carroll, after announcing his departure from the popular show.

Yesterday, the actor, who played Agnes Brown’s son Rory for 26 years, revealed that he has quit the show – and took to the stage with his cast mates for the last time at London’s O2 Arena on Sunday night.

Rory has now explained that he was “unhappy” because life of the road had become “repetitive, boring and dull”.

“I’ve been unhappy for around two years,” he told the Herald. “I handed in my notice around June 16 and said to Brendan, ‘I’d like to go’.

“It was getting to the stage where I had been touring so much. We were covering the same routes and playing the same venues and it just got a bit dull and repetitive.

“Life on the road can be boring and I would be staying in apartments I didn’t really like. And the time off stage was dragging. If I stayed doing the tours, I would know what my life was going to be like until 2022. It would have been the same venues and places.

Despite what fans have been speculating, Rory has confirmed that his decision to leave had nothing to do with money or a falling out with the show’s creator, Brendan O’Carroll.

“But I can’t fault Brendan, and there was no falling out – and it definitely wasn’t about money. Brendan has been so generous to me. In fact, his generosity has enabled me to leave the show,” he explained.

Rory has no idea who will replace him, or if his character will be written out of the series.

“I don’t know who will be replacing me or if they will be replacing me at all. I don’t know if they will be writing me out – I have no opinion on that.

“It’s nothing to do with me. That’s up to Brendan and the BBC,” he said.

However, Brendan has confirmed that Rory’s replacement would be revealed in the Mrs Brown’s Boys Christmas Special.

Rory also admitted that Brendan asked if he wanted to perform one last time in Dublin’s 3Arena in December, but he declined.

“I said, ‘No, I can’t hand in my notice in June and work until December. That’s too much of a wait’,” he said.

Rory is now looking forward to spending some time at home in Dublin, and hopes to move into radio in the future.

“I’m just going to relax, but in the future I would love to do a radio show. Nothing on 2FM because I don’t know any of the chart music. Something on a Saturday and Sunday perhaps,” he added.
