Kathryn Thomas has slammed the fashion industry’s obsession with skinny models and believes something has to be done.
The TV star admitted she’s horrified when she sees pictures of waif-thin models gracing the catwalks and is urging the industry to take better care of its models.
“Malnourished, skeletal-looking models have dominated the catwalks for years,” she said.

“And though there have been moves from some big players on the international fashion front, not enough has been done.”
Kathryn has noticed some changes in the industry in the move away from super-skinny models but she doesn’t think things are moving fast enough.
“The tide is turning away from the ‘heroin chic’ look that dominated the 1990s, but not fast enough,” she said.

The Operation Transformation presenter has heard horror stories from a close friend who is one of Ireland’s biggest models.
“I have heard horrendous stories, one from a good friend of mine who also happens to be one of Ireland’s top models at the moment.”
“She revealed how she was advised to drink coffee and Epsom salts a week before a shoot to satisfy a client who wanted to shrink her size 6 frame,” she wrote in her column for The Star.

“I cannot understand why girls who grace the covers of magazines like Sports Illustrated – curvy, toned, strong and athletic – don’t make better clothes horses when it comes to high fashion.”
