Irish teen scoops HUGE acting award won by Saoirse Ronan, Leo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence

Irish teenager Ely Solan has won a Young Artist Award in Hollywood award.

The 14-year-old is following in the footsteps of huge on-screen stars such as Saoirse Ronan, ­Leonardo ­DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence by scooping the award.

The Galway native won the accolade for his ­portrayal of Jon Venables in the Oscar-nominated short film Detainment.

The teen traveled to Los Angeles to attend the awards ceremony with his mother after finding out he had been nominated for the Young Artist Academy Award for Best Performance In A Short Film.

He initially discovered his nomination via Instagram, before getting his parents to confirm the shortlisting with the awards board.

“It is so nice to get recognition for something I put my heart and soul into,” he told The Irish Sun.

“I’d only gotten auditions for Irish projects before this, but it’s getting bigger now.”

“At the moment I’m being considered for two roles.”

Ely  has also starred in Drop Dead Weird on RTE 2 and in feature film Four Kids And It.
