Irish model Kate Grant has shared an inspiring video to mark World Down Syndrome Day.

21st of March is the worldwide day to celebrate the Down syndrome community around the world.

Kate asked her 48.3k followers to comment with a blue and yellow heart emoji under the post to show their support.

Kate captioned the post: “21 March is WORLD DOWN SYNDROME DAY. Celebrate with me this beautiful community by putting 💙💛hearts in the dms.”

The Tyrone native is the first Down syndrome model in both the UK and Ireland.

Kate also won Model of the Year at the 2024 Gossies Awards on March 2nd.

She was presented her award by fellow Irish model and former Dancing With The Stars contestant Rosanna Davison.

Kate was up against a host of famous Irish models for the award including, Jessica Borza, Jasmine Gerhardt, Kelly Horrigan, Thalia Heffernan, Kate Grant, Teodora Sutra, Louise O’Reilly, Sarah Morrissey, Tommy Tomovyov.

In 2019, Kate Grant was recognised for her achievements in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.

At 19, Kate made huge advances by becoming the first model with Down’s syndrome to walk in Belfast Fashion Week shows.

The model was awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) for “services to the community in Cookstown”.

Speaking to BBC Radio at the time, Kate revealed that she was “so, so excited” when she received her letter informing her of the medal.

She added that she believed she had been recognised for raising “awareness of people with special needs”.

“My parents and myself are so proud of me, I want to continue to raise awareness through my modelling,” she concluded.
