Irish actor Cillian Murphy wins his first Oscar for his role in Oppenheimer

Cillian Murphy took home his first-ever Oscar during Sunday night’s Academy Awards ceremony.

The prestigious award ceremony was held in Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre, and saw a host of stars from the film industry receive a nod for their recent work.

The Irish actor took home the award for Best Actor for his role as Robert J. Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan’s award-winning film, Oppenheimer.

The 47-year-old has won critical acclaim for his in Christopher Nolan’s biopic about the nuclear physicist.

Cillian recently swept awards season after winning Best Actor at the Golden Globes, SAG Awards and BAFTA’s.

The Peaky Blinders actor went up against Bradley Cooper, Colman Domingo, Paul Giamatti and Jeffrey Wright on Sunday night.

The others were nominated for their respective roles in Maestro, Rustin, The Holdovers and American Fiction.

Oppenheimer led the field in this year’s Academy Awards with 13 Oscar nominations.

Cillian’s co-star Robert Downey Jr also took home the award for Best Supporting Actor.

Falling behind Oppenheimer was the Irish-produced film Poor Things with 11 nominations, Killers of the Flower Moon with 10 nominations, and Barbie with 8 nominations.
