Eoghan McDermott has opened up about his struggles with mental health and how he helped a girl battling depression.

The RTE presenter made a video last year for Pieta House in which he discussed self harming, and revealed a troubled girl contacted him.

“I got an email from a 15-year-old girl, from Louth,” he explained.

“She said, ‘Saw that you are doing really well, and I thought maybe if I feel s*** and you felt s*** maybe I’ll feel better and can do well like you’,” he added.

“I was asked to do this thing for Pieta House, and knew of them,” he explained.

“When you see first-hand what they are up to I thought it was a bit disingenuous to be preaching their merits without being honest about my own stuff.”

The Voice of Ireland co-host made a video for the charity last year and explained he has no regrets:

“I recorded it one time. I thought about what I was going to say and I was happy with how I said it.”

Speaking to TV Now magazine Eoghan added: “There are people doing that kind of work every day, so I’m not looking for praise, beyond feeling that it was worthwhile.

“You don’t want to do that and have it go under the radar either. Not that you’re looking for attention,” he added.
