Dermot Whelan bids emotional farewell to Today FM show with ‘best friend’ Dave Moore

Dermot Whelan got emotional as he hosted his final Today FM show on Friday alongside his best friend Dave Moore.

The radio presenters have been co-hosts for 21 years, but are now going their separate ways.

While Dave will remain at Today FM with his own show, Dermot is leaving to focus on his Mind Full brand.

Dermot’s final show took a look back at his best moments over the years, before he paid an emotional tribute to his co-host Dave.

Holding back tears, Dermot said: “Dave is the most reliable man I’ve ever met. Do you know what it’s like to work with someone who has never been hungover in work, is there in time… whatever shape you turn up in he’s there.

“Dave is a rock, I am so excited for people to get the Dave Moore show in their ears every day and I’m really excited to see what Dave and I get up to beyond 21 years of Dermot & Dave off air.

“One thing’s for sure, that man is my best friend and there will be more Dermot & Dave in many forms over the next 21 years.”

An equally emotional Dave said: “It’s going to be impossible to put into words what this man means to me but I suppose the easiest way of describing it is he’s my best friend.

“I’ve sat across from him for 21 years in a radio studio, I don’t know what to do in a radio studio without him but I’m going to find out.

“He’s just a remarkable human being, somebody I am so proud to have gotten to know and to count as one of my dearest friends and I will do for the rest of my days, whether I’m doing a radio show with or without him.”

Dermot and Dave started working together back in 2002 on Dublin’s 98FM, before they made the move to Today FM.

The duo were hugely popular with listeners, and became one of the most listened to radio shows in the country.
