Dermot Bannon reveals if he’s spoken to Ryan Tubridy since the RTÉ payments scandal came to light

Dermot Bannon has revealed he reached out to Ryan Tubridy after the RTÉ payments scandal came to light.

The presenter lost his RTÉ Radio 1 show last month, after negotiations between him and the broadcaster broke down.

The Ryan Tubridy Show has since been renamed The Nine O’Clock Show, and Oliver Callan has temporarily taken over as host.

Following his brutal exit from RTÉ, a host of well-known faces have shown their support for Ryan on social media – including Dermot.

The Room to Improve star was a regular on The Late Late Show while Ryan served as host, and they’ve maintained a friendship over the years.

Speaking to Dublin Live this week, the celebrity architect confirmed he’s been in touch with Ryan since the scandal erupted.

“I’ve sent him a couple of texts,” Dermot said.

Dermot also denied he would throw his hat in the ring for Ryan’s Radio 1 slot, saying: “I don’t know if I’d be any good on the radio. I’m not really a talker, I’m cleverly edited.”

“I love what I do, and everything I do is to do with design and buildings and I love working in that genre of TV but I also have a practice that I run so I know people think you could be good at lots of other things but I love what I do and I suppose if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it.”

Addressing the RTÉ payments scandal, the 51-year-old said he hasn’t received any backlash despite being connected to the broadcaster.

“I think people like Room to Improve and love all of that so I haven’t had any of that. I’m not in that world, I’m on building sites all day long,” he explained.

Earlier this week, RTÉ confirmed Room to Improve would be back on our screens in early 2024 with four new episodes.

RTÉ announced a host of brand new shows, along with new seasons of returning favourites, during their new season launch on Monday, August 28.
