Darren Clarke has revealed he is backing Rory McIlroy to win this years PGA Championship in New York golf club, Baltusrol.
The Belfast native has already won the championship twice before in 2012 and 2013 but is expected to win for a third time this year.
“[Rory’s] been very close to plaing really well for quite some time now,” the 47-year-old admitted.

Darren further revealed that Rory hasn’t been hitting the balls like he should but he’s still confident the 27-year-old has what it takes to win any championship.
“He just seems to have thrown in the odd not so good round and the putter hasn’t really been behaving,” he said to the Irish Examinier.
“But Rory is such a talent that he can win anywhere.
“When you have his ability to hit the ball as far as he does and as straight as he does, he can overpower any golf course.”

The Dungannon native further admitted that even though Rory hasn’t won any titles since the Irish Open, it’s only a matter of time before we see him triumph again
“Just because he hasn’t won since the Irish Open, I have no concerns whatsoever.
“It’s only a matter of time before he wins again and it may well could be this week,” he added.
“And if it’s not this week, it could be the next time he plays. He’s that good.
