Cian Healy admits: 'I've put on the pounds from my holiday in the US'

Cian Healy has admitted he piled on the pounds while on holidays in the US.

The Leinster player is in preparation for the Rugby World Cup later this year and admitted he’s going to work extra hard in the gym to burn off the weight.

“I’ve been off for eight weeks and I had a long enough holiday in the States so food surrounded me the whole time,” he said.

Holiday: Cian has gained weight from relaxing in the US

“I’m carrying a few more extra pounds but I’ve added in a few more fitness sessions to ship it off pretty quickly.”

“A few times I was like ‘I can’t believe I’m having another burger’ but you want to be able to enjoy your break,” he told Ryan Tubridy on 2fm.

“You know you’re going into some serious training where you have to be fully on point with everything, so to take the holiday is pretty important.”

Injury: Cian is currently recovering from a neck injury

Meanwhile, the 27-year-old is currently recovering from a neck injury he sustained last season.

“I’m recovering from a neck surgery at the end of the season. It’s going pretty well,” he said.

“It’s about building up the arm again because there was so little movement in it in training after it… hence why I’m so fat now. It was complete forced rest to give everything a chance.”
