Charlie Bird has shared a heartbreaking health update.
The former RTÉ correspondent was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in 2021, after noticing issues with his speech.
Earlier this month, the 73-year-old emotionally told his followers that he doesn’t know how much longer he will survive for.
Taking to Twitter on Monday, Charlie wrote: “I want to be very honest with everyone who is supporting me.”
“My health is deteriorating and so is my movement. I think I am at a crossroads.”
“But I want to continue to extend the hand of friendship. And I am going to continue to raise awareness for groups that need support.”
Charlie’s Twitter followers flocked to the social media platform to shower the former RTÉ correspondent with words of support, motivation and praise.

A second wrote: “Wishing you all the strength in the world. You truly are inspiring despite the obstacles you face helping others.”
A third said: “You are absolutely incredible, Charlie. Thank you from everyone for continuing to extend the hand of friendship,” while a fourth wrote: “Keep going Charlie. Ireland’s hero…”
