Brian O’Driscoll and Amy Huberman are STILL having trouble with their new neighbours

Brian O’Driscoll and Amy Huberman’s are still having trouble with their new next-door neighbours.

The famous couple are planning to revamp their €1.8m dream home in Rathmines, but their neighbours claim their plans will block out sunlight in their own back garden.

According to the Irish Independent, Donald and Isabel Fitzmaurice lodged an appeal with An Bord Pleanala against Dublin City Council’s decision to give Brian and Amy’s plans the green light.

The appeal, lodged by Coda Architects director Brian O’Donnell on behalf of the Fitzmaurices, states that Brian and Amy’s extensions plans multiple “will have an adverse impact on the character and amenity” of their property.

The former rugby star and actress, who have two kids Sadie and Billy, have planned to revamp the house with three-storey rear extension.

Their neighbours, who live in the adjoining semi-detached house on Palmerston Road, want An Bord Pleanala to refuse planning permission for the extension, or at the very least restrict the extent of the development.

The appeal states, “Each metre that the proposed development is higher or longer, immediately curtails the light and amenity of the east-facing open space” of the Fitzmaurice property.

“We consider that the plan will add considerably to the over-shadowing of the rear garden – particular from mid-morning to early afternoon, prime hours for daylight and sunlight. We submit that the height, deputy and scale of the proposed rear extensions… is a contravention of the city development plan.”

Kevin Hughes, of Hughes Planning and Development Consultants, told the council on behalf of Brian and Amy that “the proposed alterations have been designed and scaled in a manner that is highly respectful of the special interest and integrity of the protected structure”.

A decision is due in November.
