Amy Huberman praises Irish football team for supporting LGBT rights

Amy Huberman has been singing the praises of the Irish football team today after they sported jerseys that support the LGBT community.

Ireland played a friendly against the USA and both teams wore jerseys with the player’s numbers made out of rainbows, a symbol of the LGBTQ community, in support of gay pride. Ireland won the match 2-1.

Amy took to social media to show her support for the teams’ important message captioning her post, “Total hashtag goals @faireland ????????️‍???? #goals and #squadgoals”

Homophobia is an endemic problem in football. The only premier league player ever to come out as gay, Justin Fashanu, was so badly harassed that he committed suicide.

The move is a progressive one from the FAI and has been lauded by other celebrities including 2FM presenter Stephen Byren (who made a documentary on the topic before), Aisling Bea, Cassie Stokes and Catriona Balfe.

Perhaps hubby Brian O’Driscoll will get the rugby lads to do something similar.
