Love/Hate's Aidan Gillen bags new movie role – as the VILLAIN in Maze Runner trilogy

Former Love/Hate star Aidan Gillen has bagged a lead role in The Maze Runner sequel.

The Wire actor had been cast as the villain – Janson – in The Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials.

Director Wes Ball said he “couldn’t be happier” as he confirmed the casting for the flick which will be released next year.

He said: “Well I guess it’s out now. Aidan Gillen is playing Janson (aka Rat-Man) in the sequel. He was my first choice, so I couldn’t be happier.”

The first part of the films was released in America last week, making more than €25 million at the box office in just its opening weekend.

The Irish actor’s character Janson is the main bad guy in the trilogy of books, on which The Maze Runner has been adapted from.

Pre-production is understood to have begun on the film, with shooting expected to begin in the next six weeks.

He will soon be seen back on Irish TV playing Charlie Haughey in new RTE series Charlie.
