Amy Huberman is in pre-production for her first movie, and the film’s producer Rebecca O’Flanagan has told Goss.ie how the project came out.

Rebecca, who also produced Irish smash hit comedy The Stag, said she knew Amy would write a great script.

“We are really excited to be working with Amy on this script. We have worked with her as an actor on both Your Bad Self and The Stag and knew her writing from her novels,” she said.

“It was actually when we were in Toronto for the screening of The Stag at TIFF that we first started talking generally about the idea of her writing a script.

“I think that she had been thinking about it herself and so it was a natural progression to start looking at specific ideas from then,” she told Goss.ie.

“I had no doubt that Amy would be able to write comedy: she has funny bones and anyone who knows her from twitter and her books will know that she has a very easy and engaging style.”

And Rebecca revealed the script will be perfect for Irish audiences as it will be “warm and funny.”

The producer said they will be picking a director very soon.

“Writing a script is a different process and takes a very specific approach in terms of craft and structure. It is a big undertaking,” she said.

“But Amy is whip smart and very hardworking – she really does have a great work ethic – and I am glad to say that she took to it very well.”

“We now have a first draft that we are very pleased with and hope to be in a position to start talking to directors in the coming months.

“The script is warm and funny, with a lot of heart and we hope that it will appeal to a broad Irish audience.

Amy secured a deal with Treasure Entertainment.

The actress has written her first film script, based on her novel I Wished For You, and it will be produced by the same company behind The Stag.
