Sam Asghari has responded to claims he’s “threatening to exploit” Britney Spears, and wants to challenge the terms of their prenup.
On August 16, TMZ reported that the couple had separated after a year of marriage.
According to the outlet, Sam confronted Britney over rumours she was allegedly unfaithful to him, which resulted in a major argument between them.
TMZ later reported that Sam filed paperwork to legally separate from Britney on August 16, after just 14 months of marriage.
In the documents, the Iranian-born actor listed their date of separation as July 28, 2023 and cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split.
Britney and Sam tied the knot on June 9, 2022, after five years together.
At the time, TMZ reported that the couple signed a legal agreement before they got hitched, which ensures Sam will not receive a dollar Britney earned before their wedding day, in the event of their split.
After news of their “separation” broke, a source told Page Six: “Britney and Sam signed a prenup in her favor.”
“Any money she made before the wedding is protected,” the insider continued.
Elsewhere, a separate insider told the publication that Britney had hired a “high-powered divorce lawyer”, as her split from Sam is likely to turn into a courtroom battle.
The outlet reported that Sam is allegedly seeking to change the terms of their prenup.
The source alleged that Sam is “attempting to negotiate concessions beyond his prenup and threatening to go public with extraordinarily embarrassing information about Britney unless he gets paid”.
However, Sam’s reps have since told The US Sun: “There are many claims that Sam is challenging the prenup and threatening to exploit his ex-wife with videos.”
“However, all these claims are false, as no negative intention has ever been directed towards her and never will be. Sam has always and will always support her.”
The actor broke his silence on their split on Thursday night by sharing a statement on his Instagram Story.
Sam wrote: “After 6 years of love and commitment to each other, my wife and I have decided to end our journey together.”
“We will hold onto the love and respect we have for each other, and I wish her the best always.”
“S**t happens,” Sam bluntly stated. “Asking for privacy seems ridiculous, so I will just ask for everyone including media to be kind and thoughtful.”
Britney and Sam celebrated their one-year wedding anniversary just a few weeks ago, after having tied the knot on June 9, 2022.
The couple exchanged vows at the singer’s home in Los Angeles in front of 60 guests – which included some famous faces.
Britney announced her engagement to Sam on September 12, 2021, by posting a video of her showing off her massive diamond ring.
She captioned the post: “I can’t f***ing believe it 💍💍💍💍💍💍❣️!!!!!!”
