Rooney Mara has “revealed” that she is expecting her second child with fiancé Joaquin Phoenix.
The pair welcomed their first child, River back in September 2020.
Their first son is named after Joaquin’s late brother, actor River Phoenix, who tragically died of a drug overdose in 1993.
According to the MailOnline, The 38-year-old actress debuted her baby bump on Friday at the premiere of her new film La Cocina, during the Berlinale International Film Festival.
She cradled her stomach while posing for photographers on the red carpet in a black strapless dress.
Rooney and Joaquin initially met on the set of hit movie Her, back in 2013 but didn’t begin dating until four years later.
The couple remained silent on the birth of their first child back in 2020, but eventually addressed becoming new parents with PEOPLE magazine.
While discussing the migrant children crisis, the couple said: “Like many, we were pained to realise that despite falling out of the headlines, the policy of family separation continues to damage children and parents across the world, more than two years after it was ruled illegal by a federal judge.
“As new parents, it’s unbearable to imagine what it would feel like to have our child taken away from us for a day, let alone years.”
They added: “How will it feel to explain to our son…how we treated scared, defenceless children, some of whom may never see their parents again?”
Earlier last year in January, Rooney opened up about motherhood while on the LaunchLeft podcast: “I love it. I love it so much. I think it’s the best thing in the world.”
“I mean, it sounds so cliché when you talk about it, but things are cliché for a reason.”
She continued: “I also have a very privileged life.”
“Motherhood is very challenging, even when you have a privileged life, and I’m so lucky that I have the choice to get to be with him most of the time.”
“That I’m like, ‘Oh, I’m just going to work once a year if something feels right, and other than that, this is what I’m doing’. Most people don’t have that option.”
