Pierce Brosnan gives his verdict on Aaron-Taylor Johnson being offered the role of James Bond

Pierce Brosnan has given his verdict on Aaron-Taylor Johnson being offered the role of James Bond.

The famous Hollywood star has been rumoured to play the next 007 after being “formally offered the opportunity” to play the legendary British spy.

Pierce starred in 4 of the spy series iconic films: GoldenEye (1995), Tomorrow Never Dies (1997), The World Is Not Enough (1999) and Die Another Day (2002).

The A-lister who worked with Aaron in the 2009 movie The Greatest, told RTÉ Radio 1 he “would definitely tip my hat to the fellow” for the role of 007.

“I think the man has the chops and the talent and the charisma to play Bond, very much so,” the actor added on The Ray D’Arcy Show.

The 70-year-old was a producer on The Greatest, which starred him and Susan Sarandon as a married couple who were grieving the death of their teenage son, played by Aaron.

Reminiscing on the film, Pierce spoke fondly of the 33-year-old’s acting skills: ‘He was the greatest in it. It’s a lovely movie with Aaron and Carey Mulligan, Susan Sarandon and myself.”

Answering what tips he would give the actor, Pierce said: “Be bold. Go out there. Have a great time. Just love it. Just go for it. You can do it.”

However, the father-of-two has not officially accepted the role as of yet.

In an interview with Rolling Stone UK magazine, the actor opened up about his thoughts on the role.

Aaron spoke to the outlet about his previous role in a Marvel movie and his future career: “I don’t necessarily want this to be my brand, doing one action movie after another. But I trained to the point where I was 200 pounds of muscle. I ate so much f**king food. I was so big.”

“I’m doing normal life; dentist appointments. Career doesn’t necessarily take a back seat, but it takes a different thought behind the choices that you make. But you also discover characters you’re drawn to because of that, you’re not just some 20-year-old anymore. You unlock some secret thing… I don’t want a jobbing career.”

“You realise it’s your job to protect the purest, most innocent thing that’s come into the world. And it’s your duty to be their role model,” he explains.

“You are going to be reflected in their choices later on in life, from who their partners are to how they carry themselves in the world.”

If Aaron accepts the opportunity he would be the seventh actor to take on the lead in the Bond franchise.

According to The Sun: “Bond is Aaron’s job, should he wish to accept it. The formal offer is on the table and they are waiting to hear back.”
