Jennifer Lopez has opened up about her romance with Ben Affleck and revealed why it took them 17 years to reunite.
The couple, famously dubbed ‘Bennifer’, got back together in May 2021 – 17 years after they called off their engagement.
The “it” couple of the early noughties tied the knot soon after and made it official in a Las Vegas ceremony in July 2022.
Speaking on The Kyle And Jackie O Show on Thursday, Jennifer explained it took her two decades to “figure herself out.”
The actress then said that this period of transformation was needed before the universe could “open up” again and allow her to reunite with her ex-lover.
“I fell in love with the love of my life [earlier in my life] and for whatever reasons… we needed to grow and do other things,” she said.
“We both went off and had children with other people and other relationships but, you know, in mind I kind of had it like, ‘Oh, that was kind of the one’ and so when we got back together.”
“I couldn’t believe it and I don’t think he could either. It’s not something we ever planned. We really had moved on with our lives but when we reconnected, it was almost instant and we just knew.”
Jennifer described her relationships between reuniting with Ben and opened up about how having children made her a better person.
“I was on a real journey ever since my kids were born,” Jennifer, who shares twins Max and Emme, 16, with ex Marc Anthony said.
“[I was trying] to be better and figure myself out and be the best person I can be so I can be a great mum, and a great example for them.”
“Then when I got divorced, it kind of kick-started another phase of me trying to figure out myself and relationships and things like that,” she continued.
Following her failed romance with Alex Rodriguez, the singer revealed that she was content with her life as it was but the Universe surprised her.
It was at this point that the singer finally rekindled her flame with Ben Affleck.
“I was like, ‘I’m good on my own, I’m fine, I love my life’. And when you get to that place, I think that’s when the universe kind of opened up to me and was like, ‘OK now you’re ready’,” she said.
