Gwyneth Paltrow makes candid confession about her children leaving home

Gwyneth Paltrow has confessed she feels “a deep sense of impending grief” as her son Moses, 17, leaves for college later this year.

The Goop CEO spoke to The Sunday Times about how she is preparing to have all her kids away from home for the first time.

She admitted: “On the one hand incredible sadness. A deep sense of impending grief.”

The mother-of-two continued: “On the other hand this is exactly what should be happening.

“Your kids are supposed to be, you know, young adults who can achieve and cope and make connections and be resilient. That’s exactly what you want. And that means they leave the house.”

Paltrow shares two children – Apple, 19, and Moses, 17 – with her ex-husband Chris Martin, as well as a stepson with her current partner, Brad Falchuk, who she married in 2018.

Gwyneth and Chris “consciously uncoupled” in 2016, but have remained close since their split.

She candidly admitted: “I observe a lot of my friends who’ve had kids who’ve gone off to college. Your kid … it changes.

“And, you know, they come home a lot and all that stuff, but it’s not quite the same as living under the same roof all the days of the year. So I’m just trying to be open to what that means.”

The 51-year-old had her first experience of kids flying the nest when her eldest child, Apple, left for higher education back in 2022.

Gwyneth shared with Us Weekly at the time: “It’s been a major transition. I didn’t know what to expect, but I knew it would be hard because Apple and I are so close and were together all the time. But I had no idea. It was like the worst heartbreak I’ve ever [felt].”

“I felt like the love of my life broke up with me for weeks. It was terrible.”

She added: “Now, I’m getting more used to it and it also helps to see her happy and well-adjusted. That makes a huge difference.”
