Cristiano Ronaldo agrees to €18.8m fine and suspended jail sentence for tax evasion

Cristiano Ronaldo has agreed to pay a fine of €18.8 million and a suspended jail sentence for tax evasion in Spain.

The footballer appeared in court this morning after his request to appear through a video conference or enter the building by car to avoid the media spotlight was denied by the judge.

The 33-year-old made a deal before he entered the court, which stated that he had to pay a fine of €18.8 million and was given a 23-month jail sentence.

It is unlikely that the footballer will spend any time in jail, as it is a non-violent case and many convicts who are given a sentence of under two years in Spain rarely go to jail for their offences.

Cristiano’s court appearance lasted under forty minutes as he accepted the prosecutor’s deal.

The father-of-one was accused of tax evasion in Spain from 2010 to 2014, when he played from Real Madrid.
