A host of celebrities have reacted to Derek Chauvin being found guilty of murdering George Floyd.
On May 25, 2020, George died in hospital after he was pinned to the ground by former Minneapolis police officer Derek while being arrested for allegedly using a fake $20 note in a shop.
A video of the harrowing incident went viral on social media, sparking mass protests across the US and the world.
Following a three-week trial, the jury found Derek guilty on all three counts against him – second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.
Following the news of the guilty verdict, celebrities took to social to celebrate justice being served, and to remember the late George Floyd.
US chat show host Oprah Winfrey wrote: “Relieved—and emotional in ways I didn’t expect. I cried tears of joy as each verdict was read. I’m grateful to the witnesses and their testimonies. Grateful to Darnella Frazier. Grateful to every Juror for seeing and acknowledging what the world saw on that tape. Thank you God for real! #GeorgeFloyd”
Actress Lili Reinhart tweeted: “Guilty on all charges. I am holding back tears on set. this is so incredible and I pray a step in the right direction for all racial injustices in this country.”
