Astroworld performer SZA ‘speechless’ after eight people die at festival

SZA has admitted she is “speechless” over the tragic events that took place at Travis Scott’s Astroworld Festival.

The concert took place in Houston, Texas on Friday evening, and eight people died on the night after a crowd surge.

SZA, who had performed at the festival earlier that evening, took to Twitter on Saturday to react to the sad news.

She wrote: “Speechless about last night I’m actually in shock n don’t even know what to say .. just praying for everyone in Houston especially the families of those that lost their lives.”

Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner confirmed at a news conference on Saturday that eight people died in the mass casualty event.

Among the dead are a 14-year-old, a 16-year-old, two 21-year-olds, two 23-year-olds and a 27-year-old. Another victim’s age has not yet been identified.

The majot said of the 25 people initially transported to the hospital, 13 remain hospitalized.

Taking to Twitter the morning after the event, Travis tweeted: “I’m absolutely devastated by what took place last night.”

“My prayers go out to the families and all those impacted by what happened at Astroworld Festival. Houston PD has my total support as they continue to look into the tragic loss of life.”

“I am committed to working together with the Houston community to heal and support the families in need. Thank you to Houston PD, Fire Department and NRG Park for their immediate response and support. Love You All.”
