Alec Baldwin says fatal Rust shooting has ‘taken years off my life’

Alec Baldwin has said that his shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust has “taken years off my life” and cost him professionally.

The actor accidentally shot the mother-of-one while they were filming the Western movie in October 2021.

The 64-year-old has since told CNN that he has lost five projects following Halyna’s death.

“I got fired from another job yesterday,” Alec explained. “There I was all set to go to a movie, jump on a plane … I’ve been talking with these guys for months and they told me yesterday, ‘We don’t want to do the film with you because of this.’”

The actor revealed he feared for his life after former President Donald Trump publicly announced his belief that Alec shot Halyna on purpose.

He said the stress of those fears have “taken years off my life”.

Alec said: “There is just this torrent of people attacking me who don’t know the facts.”

“If I didn’t have my wife [Hilaria], I don’t know where I would be right now… If I didn’t have her, I probably would have quit, retired, gone off, you know, sold everything I owned, got a house in the middle of nowhere and just, you know, did find something else to do, sell real estate,” he told the outlet.

Earlier this month, an FBI report concluded that Alec did in fact pull the trigger on the gun which killed Halyna, despite having always maintained he hadn’t.

The newly completed forensics investigation by the FBI found that the weapon in question could not have been fired without the trigger being physically pulled.

The report, which was obtained by ABC News, stated that with the hammer in the quarter- and half-cock positions, the gun “could not be made to fire without a pull of the trigger”.

The findings have been reviewed by the New Mexico Office of the Medical Investigator, and a further post-mortem report classified Halyna’s death as an accident.
