The cheese, the craic and the stools: 6 reasons we want Westlife back together

With One Direction’s recent BRIT Award for Best Video and Hometown continuing to storm the Irish charts, it’s clear we still love boybands.

The last few years have seen a slew of former groups get back together from Take That, Backstreet Boys and Blue to the New Kids On The Block and 5ive (well four of them anyway).

But we at Goss HQ think the next band that needs to get back in the game again are none other than Westlife.

It’s only been three years since their Farewell tour, but we’re already dying for more. And this is why we want them back:

1. They had a good sense of humour

When you’ve got the pressure of millions of fans watching your every move, life can get pretty stressful.

But luckily, Westlife always found ways to keep things fun.

Here’s an old clip from when they were still a fivesome and Brian McFadden was getting the short end of the stick.

2. They rose us up

Every artist has those few songs that define them.

Backstreet Boys had I Want It That Way, Destiny’s Child had Independent Women and Westlife had You Raise Me Up.

Ok, they had plenty of other noteworthy hits you could list, but there’s something special about You Raise Me Up that gets us everytime (even though Josh Groban released it first).

We’ve heard it played over enough X Factor auditions when the judges say yes to know it’s a classic that will never die.

3. It’ll give them an excuse to talk again

Westlife Launch X at The Four Seasons

Yes, believe it not, the lads have not kept in touch since parting ways in 2012.

While chatting to Ryan Tubridy on The Late Late Show, Nicky Byrne revealed the boys don’t really see each other all that often anymore.

“We don’t talk unless we have to talk…there’s nothing to talk about. Everybody’s doing their own thing,” he said.

Well Nicky, that just isn’t good enough for us.

You had joy, you had fun, you had seasons in the sun – so its time to get the factor 40 out and have more fun together for years to come.

4. The cheese factor

Who doesn’tlove a bit of cheese with their pop?

You could always count on Westlife to cheese things up a bit every now and then – but we think Bop Bop Baby took it to another level.

The boys have since admitted they didn’t want the song released as a single – and we can see why.

Distressed captives in a dungeon singing their hearts out against the prison bars and having a sword fight with Vinnie Jones? Alright, then.

5. They loved having the craic

Who else would do a television interview on the toilet?

Westlife were always up for the craic and we think this hilarious interview randomely staged inside a public restroom shows that.

We’re not so sure about Nicky thinking Bono could be Ireland’s president, but we’ll forgive him for teaching the UK what the Taoiseach is.

6. They loved sitting on their stools

You can’t have a Westlife ballad without the lads sitting on their stools.

While most boybands are known for their cheesy dance moves (N’Sync we’re talking about you) Westlife were more into having a rest during their gigs.

A reunion tour would mean more stools on stage…sounds like a good enough reason to get back together lads.
