Saoirse Ronan set to star in On Chesil Beach adaptation

Saoirse Ronan has landed another new role as she is set to star in a big screen adaptation of novel On Chesil Beach.

The Oscar nominated star will play the lead role of Florence in the film, based on the story written by Ian McEwan.

On Chesil Beach, which was shortlisted for the Booker Prize in 2007, tells the story of Florence and Edward – a couple who spend their honeymoon in a small hotel on the Dorset seashore, Chesil Beach, in 1962.

Over the course of their stay they reflect on their very different upbringings and look at what the future has in store in a touching story that deals with how misunderstanding and fear can shape your life.

This isn’t the first time Saoirse has starred in an adaptation of one of Ian McEwan’s novels as she was cast as Briony Tallis in Atonement, which he wrote, and earned her first Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress in 2008.

“It’s an extremely exciting prospect to be reunited with Saoirse Ronan on such a beautiful and heartbreaking project,” said producer Elizabeth Karlsen.

Production for On Chesil Beach is set to begin this Autumn.
