Domhnall Gleeson: 'My nipples nearly broke off when shooting my new film'

Irish actor Domhnall Gleeson has opened up about filming his new flick Brooklyn – revealing his nipples were harmed in the making of it.

Starring opposite Saoirse Ronan in the film adaptation of Colm Toibin’s novel, the Malahide native admitted his poor nipples were the only thing that changed during shooting.

“The only way it changed me was my nipples nearly broke off when I got into the Irish Sea but, apart from that, it was kind of a shortish job for me, it wasn’t particularly a long thing,” he said.

Domhnall stars alongside Saoirse Ronan in the film which follows her character Ellis Lacey who is forced to choose between two men, each in different places – New York and in Ireland in the 1950s.

Opening up about the movie, the 32-year-old said there is “something comforting” in Saoirse’s character’s dilemma.

“I think there’s something comforting in the fact that just because you have two choices, doesn’t mean either of them are right,” he told the Toronto Sun.

“You have to make a choice, that’s the thing. I think there’s comfort to be had and great sorrow to be had.

“That’s what makes it a good movie, but I don’t want people to take that away with them,” he added.

The flame-haired star attended the films premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival alongside his actor father Brendan Gleeson.
