Baz Ashmawy has insisted exploring his Muslim roots has made him go on the dry.
The TV presenter, who has re-educated himself on his Islamic heritage in his RTE Two documentary Lost Muslim, revealed he only treated himself to a tipple at the Emmy’s.
“I haven’t drank in a while if I am honest. I gave up for a while,” he said.

“I have to confess I had a couple of drinks at the Emmy Awards but for the most part I am not drinking.”
Recently winning an International Emmy for his programme 50 Ways To Kill Your Mammy, the 40-year-old practised both Islam and Catholicism as a child – until his parents split when he was seven.
The Sky One star revealed reconnecting with his spiritual side has made him leave his partying days behind.

“When I was making the programmes I tried to commit to it. And you have a flicker of something in you sometimes,” he told the Mirror.
“I’d look at people who have a faith like my mum who is a Catholic and my sister who is a Muslim and they are two sweet, lovely great people and their religion helps them.
“So I thought maybe I might try that and it might work for me. I am a spiritual person and there are bits of both religions I like,” he added.
