Armed guards patrolling U2's 3Arena gigs

Armed Garda detectives are patrolling the 3Arena this week during U2’s four homecoming gigs.

Undercover cops carrying weapons have been given access to all areas of the venue to ensure the band’s concerts play out safely.

The operation comes after the terrorist attack on the Bataclan concert hall in Paris on November 13 which left 89 people dead.

U2’s Paris gigs were called off after the incident and they have since been rescheduled for December.

“These detectives have been drafted in for each night U2 are playing and are armed and ready for any possible event,” a source said.

“They will be patrolling both the inside and outside the venue and will try to blend in with fans by having tops and hoodies on over their ballistic vests.”

“This kind of operation at a concert in Dublin is out of the ordinary for the Gardai, but after what happened in Paris, security is at an all-time high,” they told the Irish Daily Star.
