Aidan Gillen reveals secret souvenirs from RTE series

Aidan Gillen has revealed he has kept souvenirs from the set of RTE show Charlie.

The Love/Hate star played the infamous Charlie Haughey in the drama and admitted he kept a fake cheque for £500,000.

“I do tend to keep things from jobs. I have a load of Guinness Mahon cheques for half a million each – props,” he explained.

“Des Traynor [played by Frankie McCafferty] was handing me these cheques and I’m putting them in my pocket, thinking I’m going to put
them all together and frame them.”

The Dublin actor also has two oil paintings of himself as the former Fianna Fail leader.

“One is of me sitting on a horse, the other was on the staircase of Abbeville [Haughey’s home],” he told the Irish Mirror.

“Up close it looks 90% like me, 10% like Bruce Willis – it’s a kind of hybrid. The painter did a great job.”
