Eoghan McDermott has revealed that his mother encouraged him a lot as he was growing up, putting his strong feminist views down to his mothers influence.
The presenter, who prides himself in fighting for women’s rights and gender equality, admitted that his mother believed that if there was more women in power globally – the severity of many disasters and crisis’ could have been avoided.
“She’s a champion of women and believes that many of the world’s problems that are so dominant and daunting – from the financial crisis to the middle-eastern conflict – wouldn’t have been as severe had there been more women in power globally I’ve inherited that view from her, too.”

“We’re feminists! She kept her maiden name and if I ever get married I’ll suggest my partner does the same,” he told RSVP Magazine.
While Eoghan’s revealed his mother was serious about fighting for women’s rights, he admitted that he gets his “risqué and occasionally wicked” sense of humour from his mammy.
“I definitely get my sense of humour off Mam. A little risqué and occasionally wicked, but always warm. She also has a great sense of adventure that I’ve picked up, too.
“She’s just booked a big trip up the west coast of America with Dad, starting in Vegas, ending in San Fran. “We also have an outrageous mutual love of chocolate,” he added.
