Irish film Brooklyn set for small screen spin-off

Irish film Brooklyn, which stars Saoirse Ronan as the lead role, is set for a small screen spin-off after receiving huge box office and awards success in the past year.

According to Screen Daily, the Oscar and BAFTA nominated film’s producers Finola Dwyer and Amanda Posey are working on a series which would focus on the boarding house where Saoirse’s character Eilis lived in the original box-office hit.

In the film, which was adapted from bestselling author Colm Tóibín’s novel, the scenes from the boarding house were amongst viewers favourite, which featured Julie Walters as likeable landlady Mrs Keogh.

Unlikely: Saoirse won’t be reprising her role as Eilis

The producers are reportedly confident that Julie would be willing to reprise her role in the spin-off series, which would feature the same group of women from the big screen adaptation.

Although it is highly unlikely Saoirse would reprise her role as Eilis as she seems to be sticking strictly to film, producer Finola revealed that they’re talking to writers and that plans would go ahead once Brooklyn finished it’s run in the cinemas and through DVD.

“We’re talking to writers now and have a couple in our sights,” she said.
