People all over Ireland and the UK have been left in shock over Ched Evans rape verdict – which got overturned today.
The former Sheffield United footballer was arrested in 2011 after allegedly raping a teenage waitress after a night out.
The waitress had gone back to a hotel room with Ched’s team mate Clayton McDonald, when Ched later arrived and joined in on the act.
Cleared: Ched with his soon-to-be wife
Clayton had texted Ched saying “I’ve got a bird” and Ched went back to the hotel with his younger brother and a friend – who then filmed the act outside of the hotel using a mobile phone light.
Ched has insisted he has been innocent this whole time, and that the waitress wanted him to join in.
However the next day he was arrested for rape and imprisoned in 2012 but only served half of his sentence.
In the retrial the judge allowed evidence of the waitresses previous sex life with partners – a move that has widely been slammed.
According to the Daily Mail, Ched’s wife-to-be also offered a key witness £50,000 to provide the information needed to acquit Ched – but the judge deemed this evidence as admissible and the jury never found out.
While some people are relived Ched is free, others are sending lots of hate to the watress, and a lot of people are digusted with the verdict.

The girl that lied about Ched Evans raping her should be put on trial, no 1 should be able to ruin a life and get away with it #chedevans

This case will only discourage rape and assault survivors to speak out. Abhorrent and dangerous is an understatement. #ChedEvans

The Ched Evans result is a huge victory for the 98% of rapists who never get punished. Since when was someone’s sexual history an indicator?

I might be reading it wrong but is this #chedevans verdict not essentially the courts saying you can’t be too drunk to consent?

This retrial is a fucking disgrace. Giving detailed account from past sexual partners is complete madness #chedevans https://t.co/G16vjHJ6WQ
