Irish films may not be released as frequently as US blockbusters, but when they do – they make an impact.
Two of the most talked about films worldwide this year have been Brooklyn and Room, which have both been nominated for Best Picture at The Oscars this year, thanks to their stellar Irish directors John Crowley and Lenny Abrahamson and their phenomenal cast.
The Lobster, starring Colin Farrell also made a splash by receiving numerous nominations including nods at the British Independent Film Awards as well as the European Film Awards.
Other Irish films that have captured the hearts of the nation are docu-film The Queen of Ireland, starring our favourite drag queen Panti Bliss as well as the heartwarming story of Song of the Sea – which unfortunately lost out on an Oscar last year.
