Idris Elba has admitted deejaying at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding reception was his “most stressful” gig to date.
Alongside being an a-list actor, the 49-year-old is a well-known DJ and was personally asked to perform at the couple’s wedding reception at Frogmore House on May 19, 2018.
During a new interview with the Daily Mail, Idris was asked to share his “most stressful” gig ever, and he replied: “The [royal] wedding, no doubt.”
“This wasn’t like my cousin’s wedding,” he explained. “This wasn’t at the community hall… This was a big, big deal.”
The Luther star, who was also invited to their wedding ceremony, confessed: “They’re good friends and I wanted to make sure they had a great time, so there was a lot of pressure.”
Idris also revealed Meghan sent him a list of songs she wanted played during the reception.
“Meghan had sent me a playlist, so I knew what she wanted already,” he explained.
Back in 2019, Idris revealed how he ended up deejaying at their wedding reception on The Ellen Show.
He said: “So Harry and I have hung out a couple of times through his dad’s [Prince Charles] charity – The Prince’s Trust – which helped me out when I was a young actor.”
“Harry came to a couple of parties that I deejayed and he was like, ‘What are you doing on [May 19]?’ I told him nothing and then he asked if I would DJ at his wedding… I was like is this a joke?” he laughed.
Aside from the British royal family, Idris ended up playing tunes for some major stars on the night, including wedding guests Serena Williams and George Clooney.
