Ashton Kutcher has shocked Ellen DeGeneres with a $4million donation for The Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund. The TV presenter is traveling to Africa soon to begin building the centre, which her wife Portia De Rossi gifted her for her 60th birthday, and Ashton wanted to help.
He popped into the Ellen Show with Hollywood manager Guy Oseary, who he’s been investing in Sound Ventures with and they’ve recently been working with Ripple. The platform specialises in money transfers and Kutcher told the TV presenter how the company is putting its money where its mouth is with regards to being ethical.
“You never ask anyone for help ever,” Ashton said. “I promised you on that call [on your birthday] that I’d be there to help you and [Ashton and I] are brothers and we’re here to help you,” he told her.
“You’re always thinking about everyone else and we wanted to show you that people are thinking about you,” he added. “So, on behalf of Ripple, we’d like to give you $4 million.”
“Usually people come out with the big, giant check and do the big giant check thing, but we can actually transfer it into Rwandan franks right now right here and all we have to do is push this button and it’s in your account,” Kutcher said as he held up his phone.
“I’d like to push it. I’d like to push it real good,” the TV host joked.
She was visibly moved by the generous donation saying, “Oh my God—that was the most amazing thing. I love you both so much—you know that.”
